INDEPENDENT PUBLISHER OF BILINGUAL SCHOLARLY BOOKS IN THE HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

Announcement: BLS Initiative 2020 Winners

At Vernon Press, we are committed to providing a home for ideas of international importance and supporting pluralism and intellectual diversity. In accordance with this mission, our Bridging Languages and Scholarship (BLS) initiative aims to extend the reach of selected titles by facilitating or financing translations into other languages, and to support the production of multilingual and translingual publications for the international markets we serve.

To recognize high quality scholarship, we have committed to cover the cost of a small number of translations into Spanish. Our selection is based on the recommendations of independent peer reviewers (all selected manuscripts must have been among our best scoring manuscripts in terms of originality, rigor, and potential impact) and our internal market assessment.

We are excited to announce the two lucky winners of our BLS Initiative 2020:

Bruno Meini, A Socio-Criminological Analysis of the HIV Epidemic

The outstanding reviews received by this book, its topical relevance of the social dimensions of HIV to the current pandemic, and the likely interest on the topic in the Spanish-speaking world, have rightly earned its place as part of our BLS Initiative for 2020.

Carmela Cucuzzella and Sherif Goubran (eds.), Sustainable Architecture – Between Measurement and Meaning

The messages contained in this edited volume are of great importance for architects and design scholars concerned with sustainability. As the global community seeks ways to address climate change and the ecological emergency, sustainable architecture is more important than ever. This book will therefore make an important contribution to debates among Spanish-speaking scholars of architecture, and is a deserving winner of the BLS Initiative for 2020.

We would like to thank all the authors who applied for the 2020 cycle of our BLS Initiative. Due to the impact of the pandemic, we have had to limit our selection to only two titles rather than the initially announced four. We are hopeful to be in a position to finance more translations of high quality, high impact work in the near future.

The next round of proposals for BLS runs until October 31, 2021. If you would like your manuscript to be considered for a translation financed by us or have secured funding to cover the translation fee, please contact us submissions@vernonpress.com.
